Baby JEMs Beauty Picks

Hello everyone,

It's me BabyJEM

Mummy is very lax and pathetic at writing blog posts recently, I have read (from sitting on her lap) some of your comments asking Where Is She? (I is a very clever 3 month old and can make puns based on the blogs name, see?) so I have taken over and am going to write my first ever beauty blog post.  And I will call it:

MY STUFF THAT MUMMY KEEPS STEALING.

Honestly, it's ridiculous. She's always trying to get me to take naps so she can raid my own beauty products and toiletries for herself. She needs to buy her own!!! This is the stuff that belongs to me that mummy can't live without.

1. Johnson's Baby Oil.  I think mummy has already written about how she can't live without this here but she's still nicking the stuff some 9 months later...

2. Johnson's Baby Wipes.  After a tip off from Auntie Ray (and I will punch her in the nose for this later) mummy has started stealing these when she dyes her hair at home.  Apparently, they do a wonderful job at cleaning off the hair dye from her face without staining, all I know is they feel wonderfully moist and soft on my little tushie.

3. Talc/Baby Powder.  Hahaha, everyone point and laugh at my mummy cos she's still carying some baby weight around (she says, I know it's really Cadbury's that is to blame and not sweet little me!) and she uses this to stop her fat thighs chafing together when the weather is hot.

4. Johnson's Baby Bath.  Mummy uses MY bath foam/soap to cleanse her makeup brushes, she loves the handy pump dispenser too.  She'd better leave me some for bathtime otherwise I will get my revenge by screaming the place down every night (muhahaha)

5. Sudocrem.  Meant for my cute wee butt, but Mum uses it when she gets a pimple (another tip from Auntie Ray, seriously I owe her such a big punch in the nose now!) and also when her jewellery causes her to get a little rash on her fingers.  It's a good job I don't need it that often, she's already stolen the little tub.

6. Miamoo Spritz and Wipe.  This is a cooling spray that's free of any nasty chemicals to help me through the summer, but I notice mummy occasionally 'accidentally' misses me with the spritz and gets her own face instead.

7. Bepanthen Baby Sun Cream SPF 50+ we both share this as mummy says it's very important to slip, slop, slap during the summer.  I'll let her get away with this one as she says sun cream is a serious bizness.

Anyway, that's me signing out.  I have to turn the TV over to Supernanny now, she is teaching me how to be evils to my mummy.

Love,
BabyJEM

While Ray Is Away... again..

4 weeks on Sunday!!

Get me out of this country!!

So on the 23rd October I'm off on my jollys again back to Tenerife (it better be roasting)- now after last time's escapade I have now invested in a hat and factor 35+ suntan lotion for my face, and will be drinking a gallon of water everyday. Lesson learnt.

However I was wondering if (like last time) any of you would be interested in doing some guest posts on here?? You can blog about whatever you want, as long as the content is original and hasn't been posted else where. I have 8 slots avaliable so if you are interested, leave your name and email address below and I'll be in touch, first come, first served and all that jazz.

Now I actually need to go and book this holiday, and figure out how I'm going to manage with 15kg of luggage :s

*Normal blogging should resume shortly, I'm busying attempting to do a new layout*

RayBan Addiction

As I'm starting to get back in the holiday mood (5 weeks on Sunday), I was having a random think (as you do) at work about what sunglasses I should be taking with me. However I then decided that a cheeky duty free purchase may be needed. So I thought today I would do a post on my modest collection of RayBan sunglasses. Personally I prefer to spend my money on RayBans, purely because a) they last ages and ages, b) I know for the price I pay for them I'll look after them and c) I think of the brand as iconic.

So onto my teeny collection (I've also been playing with the apps on my iPhone too like a geek). I'll mention where I bought mine from, however if you do a search on google you'll be able to find good offers.

Aviators

Both models are RB3025 with gold frames, top lenses are in green (classic aviator) and the bottom lenses are brown. The green aviators were the first pair of RayBans I bought and I think I paid approx £89 for them from Sunglasses Hut 6 years ago. The brown pair was bought from Duty Free last year. In all honesty I normally reach for the green ones over the brown lenses. I'm thinking the green pair will be coming on holiday with me (no swollen eyes for me).

Wayfarers/Clubmasters

Original Wayfarers RB2140 in black with green lenses. Clubmaster in RB3016 in mock tortoise and green lenses. To me both of these sunglasses represent what the RayBan brand is about- they are iconic. Now I don't want to upset anyone who reads this, and this is my personal opinion but I don't understand the fad in coloured wayfarers- original wayfarers came in either tortoise or plain black.. why ruin a good thing?? Stick to the original. However I do like the coloured inserts on the wayfarers- black on the outside, coloured on the inside. I recieved this as a gift for Christmas last year, I think the parents bought them from Fenwicks in Newcastle.

Now I don't really wear my clubmasters that often, as when I was literally paying for them in House of Fraser I recieved some bad news about a friend and everytime I wear these, I'm reminded of what happened. Normally I don't wear them for long periods of time as they really hurt the bridge of my nose. I think I paid about £80 for these as they were in the sale in HoF.

However, last time I was in Newcastle I tried the new oversized Wayfarers on- they're basically the same size as my reading glasses (also Raybans) however I can't find a picture of them any where online. Although I wouldn't say no to a pair of these..

RB Orb2140 £112.

Lush as.

What sunglasses can you not live without??

Steady As She Rose

Todays NOTD post is actually a shade which I have talked about already on the blog, however I've finally got around to posting it. I'd initally seen this colour on Emma's blog and noted it as a potential polish for Holly's wedding, and luckily for me she loved it.

Opi- Steady As She Rose

Now as the name of the polish to me kinda suggests a pinky colour though the use of "rose", this isn't the case. How would I describe it? More of a pale lilac/grey/milky white polish. Regardless I LOVE this colour, its dressy enough for a wedding, for a night out and for work (currently have this on my nails)- what more do you want in a polish??

In comparison to other OPI nail polishes (and like Over the Taupe), this polish was quite watery when I put the first coat on. I'm warning you now under no circumstances will you be able to get away with wearing the one coat. On my pictures I am actually wearing 3 coats, only due to the fact that I chipped two of my nails putting chair covers on chairs.

Ignore the state of my cuticles.

The polish lasted a good 4-5 days without chipping, however this was over a bank holiday weekend so I wasn't using a computer. However currently I'm on the third day wearing this typing away on my computer and there is only a teeny tiny bit of wear, so I think this could beat the bank holiday record. I bought mine off ebay (beautyzone2007) for approx £5 including p+p from America.

If you love Models Own Utopia, I definately recommend this.

Curse of the iPhone

I've recently parted ways with my beloved Blackberry and upgraded to a white iPhone (my new baby), and with the iPhone comes the apps. Can anyone guess what the first app (and probably the most dangerous app of them all) was?? Yes I am also a neat freak and like all my apps arranged in folders.

Oh yes the Topshop app, and I may have let a little shreek out when I spotted it.

So now instead of snapping pictures from magazines/having to remember things which I have seen.. I now have a virtual shopping list...

My poor bank accounts not going to know whats hit it :( On a random note how lush is that clutch bag?? I want.

Any other apps I should be downloading??

BeautyLab Peptide Tanning

Due to my fantastic blogging skills I forgotto schedule this post for last Friday, so here it is today instead. Now we all know how I love my fake tan however I'm not going to bore you again with my raving. Now when the lovely ladies over at BeautyLab asked if I would like to try their new peptide tan* I jumped at the chance. They also kindly sent a bottle of their skin polish exfoliator*.

BeautyLab say that the product is "A deeply hydrating tanning lotion formulated with a tan inducing peptide to provide a golden sun-kissed and streak-free tan. Blended with rainforest cocoa, rose petal, jasmine and passion flower, it has a hint of guava and melon for a delicious aroma. Loved by all skins".

Now you all know that when I test a fake tan I always test it on my legs first. The days leading up to the weekend I used the skin polish, and considering its not as "gritty" as I like my exfoliators it did a bloody good job in getting rid of all my dead skin/remains of fake tan. Also if you occasionally use it on your face, your face feels REALLY clean afterwards- just don't use it all the time or you'll scrub your skin off.

Tan and Body Polish

Onto the tan, now what amazed me was the colour- look how light it is. Now for a more experienced tanner I don't think this would put you off, however for a newbie, I think this would be a bit worrying. The colour of it reminds me of Toffee Yoghurt, however instead of smelling like toffee infact it smells very citrusy- no horrid smell of curry/digestives.

After tanning- note no guide colour.

I applied this with my tanning mitt, and it felt like I actually used more product than I should have, as the mitt absorbed quite a lot. However if you used bare hands or latex gloves, you wouldn't have this problem. I should warn you now, that when this is rubbed into the skin there is NO guide colour and it is basically clear. If you are in doubt whether you have missed a spot, I recommend just going back over it. However don't let this put you off, as if by magic...

We have tan!!

Now I have to admit I would use a couple more coats of this on my legs if I was going on a night out, but for work, one coat of this is more than enough for a hint of colour. I would definately recommend this to people who are a fake tan newbie, or who just want a bit of colour, not for the hardcore bronzed goddesses out there.

Beauty Lab is avalible online for £17 here

Anchors Away

There's always a massive hype around nail polish collections from China Glaze, Opi and Essie, normally there may be a colour which I want, however 9/10 I never bother with collections. However earier this year when China Glaze released their Anchors Away collection, each and every colour appealed to me. However acting like Captain Sensible I decided to buy one colour- which could be worn for work/nights out.

Below Deck

This reminds me of a more purple version of Barry M's Dusky Mauve or Models Own Purple Grey. However as I don't normally wear purple polishes I'm still in two minds over this. I think this will definately be a grower on me.

Like all China Glaze polishes one coat is more than enough to get even coverage, however in the photos above I used two. With my CG Naughty and Nice polish the colour lasts a good 3-4 days without chipping, this however lasted an entire 2 hours when this happened...

Epic fail

In totally this polished lasted about 6 hours as it constantly just chipped away. Very disapointing for a China Glaze polish. Luckily I got mine half price in my local Sally's for £2.99. I'll get JEM to do a dupe post for you, however I wouldn't recommend buying this polish :(

Mac Lipstick Collection

I love reading people's posts on their lipstick collections, so I thought I would follow suit and post my modest-by-some-standards collection of Mac lippies. I think before properly getting into blogging, I would have to say that I was a lipgloss girl (Mac Florabundance) and lipsticks were a no go area for me. However thats all changed, and I don't wear lipgloss any more.

Can you spot the theme in my collection...
(left-right) Myth, Creme d'Nude, Hue, Shy Girl, Plink!, Patisserie, Creme Cup, Angel, Lovelorn, Viva Glam Gaga, Pervette, Cut A Caper, Impassioned.

I do love a good nude lippy. Each time I go to the Mac counter and I look at the nude lipsticks, the in joke is "don't you not already own that". Possibly I do. Coloured lipsticks don't suit me at all. The brighest lipstick I'll wear is Cut A Caper, which on me looks coral, however on Holly it looks completely different and matches her colouring. Bizarre.

I think I prefer Mac lippies as they're quite hydrating on the lips and don't dry your lips out. Also I think its just a force of habit that when I want a new lipstick, I'll go to Mac. I've tried to get swatches for you, but probably due to my cack photographic skills, it was a pain to get swatches in the light, and also cause I'm covered in fake tan- colours dont show up that well, so it may be worth while googling the colours for better swatches.

Am I actually missing any nude Mac lippies?? If so let me know

Time Flies..Monthly Favourites

I don't really have that many favourites this month to share with you all, I've worn very little make up as I've been a hermit and only had one night out last month. Plus saving my money for Holly's wedding/Tenerife. However I have been loving the following products..

Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb- I've been wearing this a lot for work and its been on my dad's duty free shopping list for quite a while. However considering I've never mentioned that I need a new bottle on here or to anyone, guess what I have a bottle of as my wedding present off Holly... her psychic abilities are a bit scary. Really like this perfume for during the day, however sometimes for a night out everyone is normally wearing it so I don't bother. However I love the scent, its just yum.

Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic- I've read so many positive reviews about this and thought it was time I tried some for myself. Parentals have been away and in exchange for looking after the house, I told them (well left a post it note in mother's purse) I wanted a bottle of this. However, if you saw my tweet the other day you would have noticed I may be cheating on Liz Earle with Elemis Cleanser and Toner...

Benefit Coralista- You all know how much I love this, and instead of using my Accessorize blush for work, I've been using this. It lasts all day, and makes me look half awake in the morning. A nice light coral blush, which can be built up. Looks fab on both tanned and au naturel skin.

Opi Steady as She Rose- so this was the colour which me and Holly decided was going to be the nail polish I wore on the wedding. Luckily when choosing a colour Holly gave me free reign to wear what I liked (within reason) on my nails. I'd initally seen swatches of this on Emma's blog and after seeing it in Fenwicks, we knew this was the colour. I do have a nail of the day post on this, which will hopefully be up next week sometime. I got mine from ebay for £5 including p+p from America (seller is beautyzone2007).

Jane Iredale Pure Lash- if you were able to get your hands on August's Boudoir Prive box this little gem was inside of it.
Now Jane Iredale claims this is a primer for mascara, I have been using this on a night as a conditioning treatment for my eyelashes as it claims to stop lashes from drying out and splitting, as well as allowing lashes to grow to their full potential. The full size product of this is only £11 so once I use this all up, I think I may purchase one.

What products have you been loving this month?

Don't forget Tor and myself are arranging a bloggers meet up in Leeds on 12th Novemember- details can be found on the post below.

Just to give you all the heads up that after a brief chat on Twitter myself and the lovely Tor have decided to have a blogger meet up in Leeds for us Northern lasses on Saturday 12th November.

Times and everything else to be confirmed, however it will probably involve shopping, eating, drinking and plenty of gossiping.

If you are interested in coming leave your name and email address in the comments below and we'll email you once we know times. Everyone is welcome!!

However if in Harvey Nicks I run off and attempt to buy a Balenciaga handbag please will you refrain me and grab my credit card off me...warning you all now.

We hope lots of you can come!!

Hawaiian Air, Hawaiian Air

Looking in my drafts, I have a 1001 beauty posts which I have never gotten around to posting, so for one week only "Who is She" is going to be a beauty blog to see if I can start to clear this backlog of posts. So to kick start the week off, I thought I would share with you my little secret which keeps both fake and if your lucky to have been on holiday your real tan looking good.

Hawaiian Tropic Coconut Body Butter.
Ever since I can remember Hawaiian Tropic has always been the suntan lotion of choice in my house, so any time I smell this it always reminds me of holidays. I initally started using this about 6 years ago when I went away with the girls (Moho was one of them) to Zante as an aftersun.

As you can see the cream is very thick and a little goes a long way. However don't be fooled/put off by the consistency of this as your skin will absorb this super fast. Also the smell lasts all day..nom. I use this every day without fail and a tub will last me on average 6-8 weeks. For some reason Boots sell this for £10.99 a tub, however.. get yourself to Home Bargains and its only £3.99 a tub. It used to be £1.49, then £2.99 but still £3.99 is better than paying over a tenner for it.

I honestly could rave about this product all day, however if you want more proof about how much I love this..just look at this

Yup I have a stash of 5 tubs.. You never know when HB may stop stocking them...

If you love the smell of HT suntan lotion- you definately need to try this!!

Must Save Money...

Once again its my favourite time of the month, well supposed to be anyway...PAYDAY. However as I'm off on holiday next month, ideally I need to be saving as much money as possible. But as last month the majority of my money got spent on the wedding, it would be rude not to buy some new clothes.

As it looks like I'm going back to Tenerife, after being there in March this year, I now have some idea of what make up products etc I want to take with me. I really need a 4 pan Mac pallette after the airport incident with my 15 pan pallette, and I'm going to try and take the bare minimum. I doubt this will happen but you never know.

ELF Stippling Brush, £3.49 (I want two- one for foundation, one for cream blush), Topshop Cream Blush- Neon Rose, Topshop Cobalt Blue Maxi Dress, £50, River Island Feather Maxi Skirt, Boohoo Chiffon Maxi Skirt, £20 (although I'm sure Primark have some in for less), Sleek Pout Paint in Minx, £4.99.

I've also bought some red semi perminant paint pots to use on my hair to see if it keeps the red up between colouring. Was debating whether to try it this weekend, however I think I'll wait until next week. Roll on tomorrow night... bring on the mayhem!!
